Maastricht criteria

Lithuania may consider various models to boost defence funding, including the introduction of a new defence tax, yet Irena Segalovičienė, chief adviser to the president on economic and social policy, says the government should not intimidate people and businesses with new taxes.

Lithuania shall maintain compliance with the Maastricht criteria after the entry to the euro area, president of the European Central Bank (ECB) has said.

The European Council said on Friday that Lithuania is ready to adopt the euro in 2015.
